The Andover Marching Huskies are one of the newest bands on the competitive marching scene in Minnesota. Opening in 2002, Andover High School's first competitive marching band started in 2003. Very quickly the Marching Huskies have become "the band to watch" at local and regional competitions. Andover High School, the smallest of five high schools in the Anoka Hennepin School District #11, serves the communities of Andover, Ham Lake, Blaine, and Anoka, Minnesota. These communities are north-western suburbs of Minneapolis.
The marching band is par of a comprehensive music education program at Andover High School that also includes three concert bands, three concert choirs, two concert orchestras, jazz ensemble, chamber choirs, chamber orchestra, pep band and many other small ensembles. It is supported by an active band booster organization (ABBO), school administration, and a highly qualified staff. In the six short years Andover High School has been open, the music program has toured to Florida, Chicago, Denver, and Italy.
During the marching season, the band performs for select home football games and competes in several local field show festivals. In October, the Marching Huskies attend a regional or national event, determined each year. At the season's end, the band concludes its performing season with an indoor standstill concert and banquet.
